Frequently Asked Questions

Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do I park? Where do my kids go?

We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit. Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to contact us or talk with a Hospitality Minister when you arrive.

  • When are services?

Please see our times for Mass and Reconciliation (Confession).

  • What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable. After all, we are thrilled that you're joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you're wearing. Many put on their "Sunday best" as a way of showing respect and honor for the dignity of the liturgical celebration. We do request that all attire be respectable and modest. We also ask that men do not wear hats in the church building.

  • How do I get to Saint Edward?

Our parish is located at 5303 River Road N, Keizer, OR 97303. Here is a map for directions.

You can also take public transportation using the Cherriots buses. Please see Route 9 and Route 19.

If you are unable to attend in person, please see our Live Streaming of the Mass.

  • Where should I park?

There is ample parking surrounding the church. Accessible parking can be found in designated areas near the entrances to the buildings. Make sure to arrive early on larger event days such as Easter and Christmas.

  • Where do my children go?

We offer a family room area for attending Mass for those with small children.

Children's Faith Formation Classes are offered for children ages preschool through 5th grade during the the 10:30am Mass.

Some events occuring at Saint Edward may have childcare arrangements available. Please check the bulletin or calendar for more information for your event.

  • I’m not Catholic, how do I know when to sit, stand and kneel?

There’s no need to be self-conscious about the postures and responses used during the liturgy. Most visitors just follow the lead of our parishioners. However, we do have liturgical aids located in each pew that provide you with the order of the Mass, the postures, and the words of each prayer. If you don't see a worship aid in your pew, ask a hospitality minister, and they will be happy to bring you one.

  • I’m not Catholic, is it okay for me to participate in communion?

Communion, or the Eucharist, is the most intimate expression of our faith. Catholics believe that the Eucharist is literally the body and blood of Christ. Receiving the Eucharist sacramentally strengthens the bonds Catholics have with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. So, if you are not Catholic, we ask that you not receive Communion. However, those not receiving the Body of Christ are invited to come forward with their hands crossed over their chests for a blessing.

  • I am not Catholic, how do I join the Catholic Church?

Becoming a Catholic - OCIA, or the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults , is a process that enables those interested in the Catholic Faith to become more knowledgeable of what it means to lead a Catholic life.  Please contact Brad Becker (Pastoral Associate) to learn more.

  • Am I expected to put money into the offering?

If you are visiting with us, we don't expect you to put money into the offering, and you are welcome to just let it pass you by. If you consider our parish your church home, we'd love for you to prayerfully consider giving to our parish on a weekly basis. You can give by check or cash during the service, or you can sign up for online giving

  • I have a hearing problem, is there any special assistance?

Please contact one of our hospitality ministers as you arrive at the church. Special seating may be offered.

  • How do I get married in the Church?

Congratulations on your engagement! Your first step should be contacting Brad Becker (English weddings) or Jorge Navarro (Spanish weddings) to get started. They will help with scheduling your wedding and walk you through the required paperwork and marriage preparation options. Please note, we require a time period of at least six months between the initial meeting with the parish staff (Brad or Jorge) and the wedding ceremony. This will insure adequate preparation for this lifetime commitment.

See more information on getting married.

  • How do I return to the Catholic Church?

Coming back to the Church - Catholics Come Home is a six-week series which welcomes Catholics who have left the church for any reason to take another look. It offers a time and place to answer questions and assistance to those who want to begin the journey home to the Table of the Lord.  We invite you to call us anytime and look forward to visiting with you. The class series is offered 1 to 2 times each year.

  • Who do I contact for Sacramental Emergencies?

Call the office and follow the phone instructions.  It will direct you on what number or extension line to use.  Because a priest cannot always be available, you are urged to notify the parish whenever anyone is seriously ill.  Every effort will be made to assure that the sacraments are available before the situation become critical.

  • How do I make Funeral Arrangements?

Please call the parish office to schedule a meeting with Fr. Gary before you make any arrangements with a funeral home so that he can help you set a date for the funeral and plan the funeral liturgy.See our section on funerals for more information.

  • How do I make arrangements for Anointing and Communion for the Sick?

Anointing of the Sick is performed by the priest as the need arises. To make arrangements, call the office or the Sacramental Emergency number. Let us know when your loved ones are ill or needing a little T.L.C and a visit. The Communion Outreach group brings communion to the sick and homebound on Wednesday mornings and Sundays after Mass.

  • How do I seek an annulment?

Please contact Brad Becker for this sensitive request. See our marriage section for more information.

  • How do I join the prayer chain?

Saint Edward has a prayer chain. Committed members of the parish will pray for you or your loved one. Of course, this will be completely confidential. This is a very valuable way to serve our fellow brothers and sisters in their needs, and we need you to help!

  • How do I ask to have a prayer said for myself or a loved one?

Saint Edward has a daily prayer chain. The prayer chain is updated daily. If you or a loved one are in need of special prayers, please contact the office or fill out our online Prayer Request form, so we may start praying for you.

  • How do I change my address?

Please call the parish office or use our registration form to notify us of changes in your address and/or telephone number(s) OR when moving or leaving the parish so that the parish records remain current.

  • How do I make a donation or payment?

You can make a donation or payment for services at our WeShare donation page. Please select the appropriate category for your transaction and leave a note with your name (or child's name/s) when making a payment for a specific service or class.
