Congratulations! Getting married in the Catholic Church is a beautiful and sacred experience that signifies the union of two souls in the presence of God. The ceremony typically takes place during a Nuptial Mass, where the couple exchanges vows and rings, committing to a lifelong covenant of love and fidelity. The priest blesses the marriage, and the couple receives the Eucharist together, symbolizing their unity with Christ and each other. This sacrament of Matrimony is not only a celebration of love but also a profound commitment to building a family grounded in faith and guided by the teachings of the Church. May your marriage be filled with joy, grace, and countless blessings as you embark on this wonderful journey together.
The sacrament of Marriage is one of the many ways that God calls us to live out our vocation to love. To begin planning your ceremony and living out this lifelong sacrament, please contact our Pastoral Associate. Please note, we always schedule weddings at least six months out from this initial meeting.
When a Catholic discerns the vocation of marriage, the Catholic Church ordinarily requires that the Sacrament of Matrimony be celebrated within a Catholic liturgy. If you and your spouse were not married in a Catholic ceremony, we invite you to contact us to schedule a Convalidation. A Convalidation is a celebration of marriage within the Catholic Church after a civil marriage has already taken place.
If you have been previously married and would like to talk about the marriage nullity (annulment) process, please contact our Pastoral Associate to schedule an appointment. He would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and help you begin the process with the Tribunal in the Archdiocese of Portland.
